Associazione Musicale Etnea

Founded in Catania in 1973, the Associazione Musicale Etnea now belongs to the ranks of Italian concert organizations considered historic. From 2002 to 2020 the artistic direction was led by the composer Emanuele Casale flanked by an artistic committee formed by Biagio Guerrera, Diego Vespa and Luca Recupero. Funded regularly by Mibac and the Sicily Region, the AME can boast collaborations with important national and international institutions. The Association has produced over 1500 shows to date, from ancient music to contemporary musical languages, ethnic and world music, computer music, contemporary dance. Great attention is given to “alternative” and less performed repertoires. In the various seasons countless famous artists, internationally known orchestras, soloists and ensembles consecrated among the best in the world have been guests. Great impetus was given to the dissemination of music to the younger generations through seasons and training activities specially designed for them. AME also considered it appropriate to expand its business in highly sensitive sectors – pediatric hospitals, juvenile prisons, urban suburbs – offering its contribution in support of realities at risk of social exclusion and educational poverty. In this sense, the collaboration with the “Catanese Center of Intercultural Education Global Teacher Center” and with the IPM of Acireale has now been consolidated through the Jacarànda project, a small youth orchestra of Etna. In January 2020, the AME, thanks to a project funded by the social enterprise “Con I Bambini”, inaugurated the Polo delle Arti in the Librino district of Catania on the premises of the Nuova Masseria Moncada c / o IC Fontanarossa. Since 2015 AME has been organizing the Marranzano World Fest, now in its eleventh edition, which represents the most visible part of a coherent and constant approach to our programming, which aims to rediscover and safeguard the heritage of traditional Sicilian music, enhanced in an innovative way through a intercultural approach that combines concert activity with laboratory activities and moments of scientific study.
