The city of Trento today knows the Società Filarmonica for its splendid building in via Giuseppe Verdi, austere and elegant at the same time capable of immediately recalling the similar architectural images of many Musikverein that arose in the happy years of the Austro-Hungarian Empire from Ljubljana to Vienna. He knows the activity that takes place there due to the high-sounding names of the concert performers who follow one another on his stage, able to welcome the most famous stars of world chamber music, from the cellist Sol Gabetta to the violinist Janine Jansen, to the pianist Grigorij Sokolov. But since its foundation – prompted in 1795 by the democratic ideas of the French Revolution clearly present in the first Statute of the Philharmonic written by the jurist Giandomenico Romagnosi – it has been the reference for all the city’s musical activity, becoming the animator for the birth and development of a City orchestra, the civic band, the city choir, the mandolin group, the development of the Social Theater, the music section of the municipal library and, above all, the music high school, now the ‘F. A. Bonporti “. Now – let the Conservatory, Chorus, Orchestra and Band grow autonomously – the Società Filarmonica has essentially concentrated on offering concerts to the territory, focusing, first of all, on a Season of Concerts reserved for the chamber repertoire: a season of the highest level, capable of to attract the greatest interpreters of the international world to the region.
