Inspired by the landscape models of the late 19th century, Professor Lucio Viatori – from 1975 until his death (2014) – devoted his efforts to the transformation of a piece of land located on the outskirts of Gorizia, in the locality of Piuma. Crossed by the Groina stream and located halfway up the hillside, the property had been acquired by this botany enthusiast in order to create a multi-level park where he could arrange the great variety of rhododendrons and azaleas he had acquired, over time, from nurseries throughout Europe.
In the highest part of the property he had erected a simple dwelling, a privileged vantage point of the nearby grove; however, the amenity of the complex cannot be mastered from a single vantage point, because the whole is fully revealed in an up and down of paths that offer a multitude of surprises, depending on the various landscape settings recreated here and the floral collections housed there.
