Montecassiano is a village certified by the Italian Touring Club with the Orange Flag.
It features numerous well-preserved historical and cultural points of interest. Concentric streets culminate in the town’s central square where the 15th-century palazzo dei Priori and the Augustinian convent stand. A flight of steps leads up to the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, which houses the terracotta altarpiece by Mattia della Robbia and a 15th-century panel by G. da Recanati. At the church of St. John the Baptist is the Museum of Sacred Art; not to be missed are the open-air spaces in the historic center consisting of the courtyards of St. James and the Poor Clares and the cloister of the Augustinians. Close to the walls, Cerreto Park offers a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape.
