Address: Piazza S. Nazaro in Brolo 5, 20122, Milan
Touring volunteer members welcome visitors Thursday and Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
It is one of the oldest places of worship in Milanese Christianity, erected by St. Ambrose between 374 and 397. The archaeological tour shows its early Christian phase, and in the basement the original cruciform masonry of the Ambrosian period is visible; the museum-lapidarium, in the old Romanesque sacristy, preserves a rich collection of early Christian epigraphs and a small crucified Christ from the early medieval period. In the outdoor archaeological area, sarcophagi and stone chests testify to the presence of an ancient cemetery around the basilica.
