Through a gateway in the surrounding wall of the square in front of the Upper Basilica of Assisi, one enters a narrow path leading to a wide valley floor, at the foot of the town centre. Not just any hike, but a continuous and placid discovery, a new form of pilgrimage into history, into the sacred and into 64 hectares of nature, between woodland and cultivated fields, pink stone walls, clearings and olive groves.
