BETTA GRILLO PALACE – TCI

Address: Via S. Maria 66, 38068, Rovereto (TN)
Contact: +39 327 7121209

Touring volunteer members welcome you on the first and third Saturdays of the month at 2 and 3 p.m.

The complex, built by the community of Regola di Lizzana and purchased by the Betta family in 1728, features, on the main floor, the refinement characteristic of Rovereto’s 18th-century patrician dwellings with pictorial cycles testifying to the love of art and the high cultural level of the patrons. Palazzo Betta-Grillo (purchased by the Grillo family in 1899) houses an important pictorial cycle, the work of Gasparantonio Baroni Cavalcabò (18th century), consisting of seven large canvases depicting episodes from the life of Moses. Of great interest is the main-floor hall surmounted by an elliptical lacunar dome, painted on the ceiling with an illusionistic effect and two diaphragms made by means of pink marble columns to divide the room. On the walls is a pictorial cycle, by Giovanni di Dio Galvagni, with scenes from Orlando Furioso.

The historic garden retains its late 19th-century layout intact and offers a large sampling of the ornamental botanical species prevalent at the time. Now owned by the municipality, the complex was also the birthplace of Lionello Fiumi (1894-1973) a poet, critic, essayist and storyteller of international stature.
