CHIESA DI SAN FRANCESCO – FAI

Address: Piazza S. Francesco 5, 06034 Foligno
The church of San Francesco is located in the square of the same name in Foligno.
Built in the 13th century incorporating the older church of San Matteo, it was completely rebuilt in the last century to a design by architect Andrea Vici (1796). The work, which lasted many years, was supervised at first by Giovanni Bettini, then by Vincenzo Vitali.
In 1856, the church was reopened to the public after years of closure, but the façade still had to be built, which was only completed by engineer Giovanni Bertuzzi in 1886.
The façade, decorated in stucco, is divided by five pilasters with capitals supporting the entablature; above this is a tympanum crowning the central area.
