The Diocesan Museum in Padua is open thanks to the hospitality of the volunteer members of the Italian Touring Club. Set up in the prestigious rooms of the Bishop’s Palace over an area of more than 2,000 square metres, the museum contains precious paintings, sculpture, goldsmiths’ work, codices and incunabula, and sacred vestments from the territory of the diocese of Padua. Exhibited according to chronological criteria and by sections, the works testify to the cultural richness, artistic sensitivity and profound faith of the Paduan Church from the centuries immediately prior to the year 1000 to the present day. Among the most valuable works are an inkwell turned into a 9th-century chrism and a steatite tile with Christ Blessing (11th century); a gospel book cover (12th century). Included in the museum itinerary is the chapel of St. Mary of the Angels decorated with frescoes by Prospero da Piazzola and Iacopo Parisati da Montagnana.
