Even after World War II it was still a small fishing village; now it is a lively seaside town, which has on its side a coastline of unspoiled beauty and waters recognized as among the clearest in the Adriatic. The town consists of two parts: Numana Alta, in a panoramic position among the green southern slopes of the Conero, and Numana Bassa, on the seafront, with a small harbor and a long sandy beach; linking them is the characteristic Costarella steps. In the historic center, visit the Sanctuary of the Crucifix, admiring the precious artifact of Byzantine art, and the Antiquarium, which traces the history of the Conero communities from the Picenian age, when the seaport was frequented by Greek merchants, to the Roman age. In the seaside resort of Marcelli, on the other hand, the establishments and public places of the most recent tourist expansion are reviewed, all the way to the mouth of the Musone River where the southern limit of the Conero conventionally stands.
