Palazzo Calciati Crotti was founded by Count Cesare Calciati, who had the building constructed between 1763 and 1766. The palace, an aristocratic residence that has kept the interior decorations intact, including the furniture, tapestries and furnishings, is located at 1 Via Palestro, in the heart of the city of Cremona. The history of this building is closely linked to that of the Calciati family, which still owns it with Countesses Anna and Giuseppina Calciati Crotti. The palace, which over the years was gradually enriched with a sumptuous decorative apparatus, with frescoes by painters of the Cremonese school, was expertly restored between 2012 and 2015.
Once past the monumental grand staircase, the grand gallery opens, on whose walls stand 28 prints of as many European capitals. The ballroom is dominated by two Murano glass chandeliers from the 1700s, the century that characterizes the style of all the furnishings, conversation rooms and upholstery. The documentary section on display is interesting, with family ledgers and ledgers. Among the rarities is the original engraving of the “Model City” project made by Count Carlo Crotti in 1844, which is the subject of an anastatic reprint by Francesco Pagliari. The current condition of Palazzo Calciati Crotti is the result of careful restoration followed by Orazio Zanardi Landi, whose name is linked to Rivalta Castle in the province of Piacenza and the circuit of castles in the Duchy of Parma, Piacenza and Pontremoli.
