The Lanza Tomasi Palace is located in the historic center of Palermo, in the heart of the Kalsa district, the Arab Halisa, the elected citadel of the Emirs. The palace, built at the end of the seventeenth century on the Mura della Cattive, the sixteenth-century Spanish ramparts, overlooks Palermo’s splendid waterfront with the twelve windows of the facade and the lush terrace, a veritable hanging garden full of Mediterranean and subtropical essences. The palace was the last home of Prince Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, the famous author of The Leopard.
Part of the palace is divided into apartments that are rented for short stays (www.butera28.it). The apartments are furnished with period furniture, have fully equipped kitchens and are all equipped with Wi-fi, air conditioning, central heating, washing machine, TV. Some have terraces with beautiful sea views or balconies overlooking the historic center.
The owner also organizes Sicilian cooking classes (“A Day Cooking with the Duchess”), a fascinating one-day culinary and cultural experience that includes a visit to the picturesque Capo market, a lesson in the palace kitchen, lunch, and a visit to the main floor and terrace.
