Address: Corso Porta Mare 65
The park takes its name from the adjacent palace erected in the late 16th century and is the largest of the public gardens within the city walls.
It covers an area of about 4 hectares. Designed in 1780 by the Ferrara architect Luigi Bertelli for Marquis Camillo Bevilacqua, this important garden was remembered for the many sculptures that adorned it and for the great variety of citrus and flowering plants that perfumed its magnificent paths.
In the mid-19th century the Massari counts acquired the palace, modifying the entire complex as an English-style park. The design of the flowerbeds is that of the 19th century, and many of the trees are more than centuries old: in addition to the two Cedars of Lebanon at the entrance, there are some yews, an imposing ginkgo, and the giant farnia at the Corso Ercole I d’Este entrance.
Since 1936 it has been owned by the City of Ferrara, which has used it as a public park.
