With its medieval layout still intact, Pieve di Cento is located on the right bank of the Reno River, about 20 km from Bologna. Founded in the 8th century around the territory’s most important church, since its foundation it has had the peculiarity of being a civic and religious center at the same time. This fact has created in the Pievese community a singular spirit of unity and shared passion. Nearly 2 km of arcades frame the historic center rich in art and history, a jewel of medieval town planning with the regular pattern of symmetrical streets. In its interior, the collegiate church of Santa Maria Maggiore stands out, reopened to the public and worship in November 2018 after restoration needed after damage caused by the 2012 earthquake. There are numerous historic venues where you can enjoy lasagna, tortellini and the typical maccheroni al pettine, celebrated every year with the festival of the same name in late June/early July, among others.
