On the southern slope of Conero, it is a pretty village, among the most picturesque on the Adriatic. Perched above the sea, it has an historic center of medieval layout that is still well preserved. Access is from Sirolo’s small square, Piazza Vittorio Veneto, which is wide and very panoramic (it offers a unique view of the entire Conero Riviera), with the 18th-century parish church of S. Nicolò. Along Via Italia, which innervates the built-up area, one proceeds among old stone houses interspersed with narrow streets with glimpses of other times, reaching the interesting church of S. Rosario. At the end of the path, one passes under an ogival arch belonging to the medieval city walls, coming out in the square on which overlooks the 19th century Cortesi Theater. From the inhabited area, one descends to the sea, which offers enchanting corners, such as the Urbani beach, with the homonymous grotto, or that of the Two Sisters, so-called because of the stacks not far from the coast. Also in the territory of Sirolo is the abbey of S. Pietro, formerly a Benedictine hermitage dating back to the year 1000, which can be reached at 476 meters above sea level after a scenic climb.
