An ancient tower from the 14th century recently restored and immersed in a centuries-old park in the centre of Padua. The ideal location to stay in a city of art with ancient origins.
The tower of rescue originated as a military building constructed between the 12th and 13th centuries. The tower is part of the ancient defensive walls of Padua and dates back to the city’s heyday, the age of the Carraresi, a noble family that ruled between 1318 and 1405, establishing the Seignory. An examination of Vincenzo Dotto’s map of the walls from 1632 suggests that a secret passage, still to be discovered today, connects the tower to the castle.
Legend has it that Padua was founded in 1183 B.C. by the Trojan prince Antenor and has since developed into a major cultural and artistic centre, known for its renowned university, the impressive botanical garden and the prominent personalities who have lived there and contributed to its lustre in Europe and the world, such as Giotto, Donatello and Galileo Galilei. The tower is part of Padua’s ancient defensive walls and dates back to the city’s heyday, the age of the Carraresi, a noble family that ruled between 1318 and 1405, establishing the Seignory. In the 19th century, the tower was purchased by the notary Antonio Piazza, who used it, together with the garden, to house his art collection, and after a brief period of abandonment, the Soccorso tower was returned to its former glory thanks to a painstaking restoration.
